ALL DOGS MUST BE:
- Friendly with all dogs and people.
- Well socialised around other dogs and people.
- Gentle. No history of biting, guarding, aggression, or destructive behaviour.
- Calm. Moderate to severe separation anxiety is not compatible with our pack.
- House trained with good recall and obedience.
- Spayed or neutered (if over 7 months of age). Male puppies and females in heat must wear belly bands and doggy shorts indoors - no exceptions.
ALL DOGS MUST HAVE:
- The ability to settle calmly indoors and at bed time.
- Good leash manners to be included on walks (no strong leash pulling or aggressive reactivity).
- Low to moderate energy levels. High energy dogs who have difficulty settling calmly indoors are not compatible with our pack.
SENIORS, PUPPIES & DOGS with SPECIAL NEEDS:
Shy, timid, senior, and medically sensitive dogs are welcome!
Puppies are accepted on a case by case basis and must be house trained. All intact male puppies must wear a belly band indoors to prevent marking
(no exceptions)
Premium rates apply to all puppies and dogs requiring special care.

Before an Initial Introduction can be reserved, we must first review your dog’s completed intake form. If we decide to move forward, we'll request a brief phone consultation.
During the consultation, we’ll talk about your dog’s personality, energy level, routines, social behaviour, care needs and anything else that may help us determine whether our small-group home environment is likely to suit them.
If, based on this preliminary screening, we believe we're likely to be the right fit, we'll invite you to proceed to the next step - the Initial Assessment process with you and your dog at our home in South Ajax!
If you’ve carefully reviewed our acceptance criteria, and believe your dog is a good fit for Pluto’s Place, please fill out an intake form and we will get back to you promptly!
The "New Member Intake Form" may be downloaded below, and emailed to us once completed.
After we receive your intake form, we'll reply promptly via email to discuss next steps!
PLEASE NOTE:
Large (over 50lbs), restless, high energy male dogs and puppies are not compatible with our pack at this time.
Dogs with persistent anxiety/separation anxiety are not compatible.
For safety reasons, dogs with a tendency to or a history of biting, aggression, guarding behaviour, herding behaviour, fear of men, and/or a lack prior socialisation with other dogs and/or people will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Step 3 — Initial Introduction New Member Enrollment:
An initial investment of $100 is required for all new members of Pluto's Place.
Included in the price is our first meeting
(30-60 minutes), followed by our Initial Introduction trial
(half day of observation), and a Lifetime Membership with Pluto's Place.
If, following the Initial Introduction, we determine that we’re unable to offer your dog membership because our environment isn’t the right fit for them, the $50 Membership fee that's included in the price will be refunded.
The remaining amount paid towards the Initial Introduction is non-refundable, as it covers your dog’s introductory visit, supervised care, and compatibility assessment.
Upon successful completion of our introduction and assessment process, you'll receive a new member welcome package, which includes a gift for your dog and a $25 "Member Perks" card to use towards future reservations!

Unlike a traditional meet-and-greet, the Initial Introduction gives us an opportunity to see how your dog actually experiences our home when you’re not present.
You’ll begin the appointment together with your dog. You’ll meet us and our resident dogs, tour the space and have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss your dog’s care.
Next, you may leave your dog with us for approximately 2–3 hours of supervised care and observation.
During this time, we’ll get to know your dog’s:
- comfort and ability to settle
- energy level and temperament
- personality and social confidence
- play and communication style
- manners and responsiveness
- recall
- interactions with our resident dogs
- response to being away from you
- overall compatibility with our home environment
This extended introduction often gives us a much clearer picture than a traditional meet-and-greet and may reduce or eliminate the need for a longer trial period prior to boarding.
Weekday appointments:
Approximately 3–3.5 hours in duration, scheduled between the hours of 10:30am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday (as our schedule permits)
Alternate timing may be available when a daytime reservation is not possible. Visits will be shorter (2-2.5 hours) to accommodate our after hours schedule

We know it’s a big deal to leave your dog somewhere new!
We’ll take photos and/or video during their Initial Assessment visit so you can see how they spent their time with us. At pickup, we’ll review the visit with you, share our observations and discuss whether we feel our environment is a good match for your dog.
Compatibility is mutual. A wonderful dog may simply not be comfortable with our particular environment or resident dogs — and occasionally one of our own dogs may not be comfortable with a prospective guest.
Our goal isn’t for your dog to “pass” a test. It’s to determine whether everyone is comfortable, safe and likely to enjoy their time together.

Each dog is unique.
Some dogs may be ready to reserve with us immediately following their Initial Introduction.
Others may benefit from additional visits to become comfortable with us and our routines before their first regular boarding stay.
When additional familiarisation is recommended, we’ll help you choose from our introductory options offered at special introductory member pricing:
3 Half-Day Visits
Ideal for dogs who benefit from shorter, gradual introductions.
3 Full-Day Visits
Provides more time to experience our daily routine and practice settling into our home.
3 Overnight Visits
Recommended when we’d like to observe overnight behaviour or gradually prepare a dog for a longer boarding stay.
Our goal is simple: By the time you leave your dog with us for their first regular boarding reservation, we want your dog to feel comfortable and confident, and you to have peace of mind about the focused, relationship-based care we provide for your pet.

Our small-group, home-based environment is intentionally different from a traditional kennel.
Because our member's dogs spend time as part of our household and alongside our resident dogs, careful matching is an important part of keeping everyone comfortable, happy and safe.
This form helps us learn about your dog before scheduling a phone consultation and Initial Introduction appointment.
Please take as much space as you need to answer as accurately and thoroughly as possible. There are no “perfect” answers — we simply want to determine whether our environment is likely to be a good match for your dog.

A deposit of $100 is due once an Initial Assessment appointment date is agreed upon.
Once payment is received, the appointment date will be confirmed and reserved in our calendar
Rescheduling policy:
To avoid losing the initial deposit, we require at least 5 days notice to reschedule an appointment without penalty.
Appointments may be rescheduled one time only.
To avoid any additional fees, appointment must be rescheduled on the day of cancellation for a future date not exceeding 2 weeks of the original appointment date.
